Dear ladles and jellyspoons – I have a big announcement!
The DNA results came back, and we officially know Papaya’s gender! Wait for it……..
My chick is a chick! Papaya is a GIRL!!!! 🌺🐥🌷
This news is a huge shock given how outgoing Papaya’s personality is. Both her breeder and I thought she was a boy for sure! Although female birds do pose their own challenges, I am very pleased with the news. But I do need your help!
All this time I have been coming up with nicknames for boys… Now I need to think of an appropriate nickname for Papaya, the lady! I can’t very well call her “Pappi” anymore, haha. If you think of something, please feel free to shoot us an email (wingingit143@gmail.com). I would love to hear your suggestions!
Finally, I had an opportunity to check out your website . . . “TFTB” is off to a fun, interesting, informative and well-written start! Congrats! (Apply that also in regard to your recent education accomplishment!)
Expect you, by now, have a nickname for Papaya — but I must share my thought, because it is simple and follows the same rule as the nickname of my cat, whose shelter ‘given name’ was Vertigo. (Yes, the poor guy wobbled a bit.) When Ver-tigo became a part of the family, everyone was quickly informed that, henceforth, he would be “Tego.” So, keeping with that idea, Pa-paya would have become “Piya.” (My apologies for mentioning the word “cat” in your bird blog space.)
BTW, your mom is one of Tego’s favorite people — too bad that he is allergic to her! (Do I have that backwards?)
I will share your website info with a few folks in Florida.
Best of luck in all your endeavors! –Lois
